One of Tennessee William’s first great successes, his 1945 play set in a 1930s ST Louis slum tells the story of the Wingfield family’s strained relationship between son of the family Tom, his crippled, desperately shy sister Laura and his overbearing mother (played by double Academy Award winner Jessica Lange). As with much of his work, The Glass Menagerie once again touches on themes and characters close to William’s own upbringing.
