Supertramp
Supertramp were formed in 1969 and were one of the defining bands in the progressive rock genre in the 1970s. They have enjoyed success in every decade since with their blend of prog-rock, art-rock and symphonic overtones. The band were initially successful in the United States, Canada, Continental Europe, South Africa and Brazil, although were initially not as popular in the UK. The breakthrough album in the United Kingdom “Breakfast in America” contained the well known hits “The Logical Song”, “Goodbye Stranger”, “Take the Long Way Home” and “The Title Track” all of which were top 10 hits in America, with the Logical Song and the title track being the only two major hits in their native UK. In 1980 they won a Grammy for best recording, beating albums by the Legendary Led Zeppelin and Talking Heads, which cemented their profile as one of the worlds biggest live acts. That year they also won a Grammy for best production on a non classical album. That release went on to sell over 18 million copies worldwide and was a number one in the US, Canada, Australia and other countries, despite only reaching the number three spot here in the UK. They went on to sporadically release new music over the next two decades and have reformed a number of times with slight lineup changes, including Rick Davies, John Helliwell, Roger Hodgson, Bob Siebenberg and Dougie Thomson. By 1972 the only two remaining original band members were Hodgson and Davies. Hodgson went on to retire from the band in 1982 leaving just Davies as the original founding member left in the group.
