Ricky Gervais is undoubtedly one of Britain's best-loved comedians and now you have the chance to catch him live! The BAFTA award-winning star and co-writer of The Office and Extras has announced an extensive tour of the UK, with shows at many of the UK's top venues, including the Hammersmith Apollo and Birmingham's National Indoor Arena.
Ricky Gervais made a somewhat unorthodox entrance into the world of comedy. After graduating from London University with a degree in philosophy, Gervais had a short stint as a pop singer before going on to work as Entertainments Manager at the Student Union. Numerous years of booking in bands and running pub quizzes ensued (and provided him with plenty of material for later life).
Following this Gervais took up a job at London radio station, XFM. It was here that he first met his infamous writing partner Stephen Merchant and they began on writing material for ‘The Office’. Ricky Then left radio and pursued a career in television and took a position as a regular contributor to Channel 4's The Eleven O'Clock Show. Soon after this Ricky launched a solo career, [presenting his self titled solo show Meet Ricky Gervais.
Next came The Office in which Gervais took the lead role as David Brent. The show became one of the most highly regarded UK comedy shows of all time and has received a number of awards including Two Golden Globes, six BAFTAs, four British Comedy Awards and the prestigious American award The Peabody.
Following this huge success he embarked on his first live stand-up tour, Animals, based around his fascination with the animal kingdom. His follow-up stand-up act was called Politics.
His current show Science starts at the beginning of September and is sure to be an opportunity not to be missed.
