Marking the end of a jam packed year for the ex-market researcher the tour sees Gilbert bring his dark wit to venues across the UK. Over the last decade Gilbert has seen gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as one of the country’s most groundbreaking comedians.
Gilbert began his career in comedy back in 2002 after taking a course in stand-up comedy and making it to t he finals of the Edinburgh Fringe ‘So You Think You’re Funny’ talent hunt. A BBC New Comedy Award quickly followed as did Leicester Comedy Festival comedian of the year award. Rhod’s first Edinburgh solo show came in 2005. Titled, ‘1984’ the show depicted the loneliness and misery of growing up in the made up welsh town, Llanbobl. The show impressed the public and critics alike and was nominated for the Perrier best newcomer award. A follow-up show in 2008 again wowed the crowds and was nominated for the main comedy award at the Edinburgh Festival. Gilbert’s success lead to later appearances on the BBC’s Live at the Apollo as well as an appearance at the 80th Royal Variety Performance.
In what has been a phenomenal year for Rhod Gilbert, he has hosted a Michael McIntyre Comedy Roadshow, performed numerous times on Live at the Apollo, hosted the ever popular Nevermind the Buzzcocks and made many appearances on Mock the Week and 8 out of 10 Cats. He has also made a number of radio appearances including BBC Radio 2’s Rhod Gilbert's Bulging Barrel of Laughs and The Jonathan Ross Show on BBC 2 as well as hosting a regular Saturday morning show on BBC1 Wales.
