The Manic Street Preachers, or Manics as they are sometimes known are a Welsh alternative rock group formed in the mid to late eighties. Originally a quartet, the band are now a three piece following the disappearance of the then lyricist and rhythm guitarist Richey Edwards who vanished in 1995. Following the disappearance, the band released their 1998 album “This is My Truth, Tell Me Yours” which was their most successful to date with number one singles including the classics “If you tolerate this then your children will be next” and “The masses and the classes”. The album won the group BRIT awards in ’97 and 1999, and won an NME Lifetime achievement award in 2008. The band have released 11 studio albums in total, and have won over 20 major awards in the period from 1996 through to 2009, including multiple Q Awards, NME and BRIT Awards.
