The budding film director abandoned his career in films to pursue a recording career which after receiving support from several radio one DJ's and hasn’t looked back since. Example's real name is Elliot Gleave, the pseudonym 'Example' came about because of his initials, 'EG'. Nearly 10 years ago when Example was attending university in London he started MC'ing in local clubs to earn some extra money and met the producer Joseph Gardner (Rusher) and they put together the first white label release that Elliot released, titled "A Pointless Song". Example was then signed to Mike Skinner's label and went on to release a few singles, most notably a track called "Vile" which managed to get further airtime on Radio 1 in the UK. After Skinner's label folded in 2007 Elliot self-released another track "So Many Roads" which famously sampled a Carpenters track and funded the shooting of a low budget promo which won the best "Low Budget Video" at the VMA's later that year. Example isnt just known for his rapping however, as he studied Film Making when in University he took advantage of the filming of the promo for the track "What we Made" in Chernobyl to film a twenty minute mini documentary about the ghost towns that surround the abandoned city in Russia. He has also turned his hand to standup comedy, having performed on the same bill as some of the UKs best known comedians including Phil Jupitus and Harry Hill. You can still find his routine on youtube under a search for 'Example does Standup', which goes to prove the exceptional talent that Elliot is. Example is currently touring the UK with dates up and down the country, mainly in o2 Academy venues from Exeter in the South West to Newcastle in the North East. With a few more singles confirmed for release over the remainder of 2010 its a pretty good bet that Example is going to be one of the hot artists of this year, and now is your chance to get to see him early on in his career and have a great night out!
