We wish it wasn’t so but it looks like THE boy band is going to be calling it quits. Now move yourself back from that ledge because they aren’t going to leave us without say good bye. Westlife are going to say good bye with a massive set of concerts across the UK. This final tour from Westlife will be bitter sweet for fans who have grown up and fallen in love with the Irish charm and beautiful music.

Westlife were a phenomenon, pure and simple. The Irish pop foursome still hold the record for being the only group in UK Music history to have had their first seven singles go straight to the coveted number one slot in the official UK charts, an accomplishment that is unlikely to ever be topped. In addition to the official top 40 success, the band also claimed the very first official download number one in 2004, with their single “Flying Without Wings”. The group were originally formed in Ireland in 1998 and were signed by Simon Cowell and are currently managed by Loius Walsh, on the SyCo label. They have had a total of 14 number one singles in the UK, making them the third most successful act in UK Music history, only behind Elvis and the Beatles. During their career so far they have sold a total of nearly 50 million records, making them amongst the highest selling artists worldwide of the last decade. Their musical style has evolved from the teen pop classification that they were best known for in their early days, into a ballad/pop genre which has proven to be both popular and has increased their longevity making them a much more mainstream band than many of their boyband peers from the late 90s. In the early stages of their careers they were perhaps unfairly compared to the likes of Blue, A1, Take That and the Jonas Brothers, however they have outlasted most of their generation and continue to be immensely popular with their suave brand of pop vocals. They list their influences as Michael Jackson, the Backstreet Boys and Boyzone, and have a glittering celebrity following, with fans such as Chris Martin from Coldplay.
