Sister Act Tickets
Sister Act is based on the 1992 hit comedy film of the same name and is written by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner, Glenn Slater and Alan Menken. The film starred Whoopi Goldberg and was a resounding success as was its sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, which starred a very young Fugee; Lauryn Hill. Sister Act opened in the West End at the London Palladium in 2009. American actress Patina Miller was cast as the disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier. She understudied for role for six months during its initial run in the United States. Miller had been a finalist for the role of Effie White in the Beyonce Knowles film, Dreamgirls. Hollywood’s loss was London’s gain, as she captivates audiences with her exceptional performance. She has received rave reviews and brought her added warmth and humour to the role, that she displays in real life. In 2009 she won the Theatregoers Choice Award for Best Actress and was also nominated for the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Joining Miller in the cast is onetime member of boy band Blue, Simon Webbe, who plays the part of Curtis Shanks. Hollywood legend and comedy genius, Whoopi Goldberg joins the cast for a limited run in August 2010, bringing a touch of tinsel town to the West End. Goldberg announced recently that they were looking for a more permanent London theatre home for the musical. She also mentioned that there were plans to take it on the road with a UK tour that will begin in late 2011. Don’t miss this chance to see one of the best loved new musicals live.
