Simply Red have been a huge force in British music since the mid 1980s, with 15 albums and nearly fifty singles released in the last twenty five years, Mick Hucknall and band have sold around fifty million albums. One of the greatest bands in British pop history, they were originally formed as a punk band, but had limited success. They made their breakthrough into the mainstream with their debut album “Picture Book” released in 1985 scoring a second place in the UK album charts, and has gone on to be a 5x platinum record in Britain, and a Platinum US release as well. That original album had a number of hit singles, the most notable of which that still gets airtime was the timely “Money’s Too Tight to Mention” which was a massive international success for the group. Despite the success of the debut album it was a full decade before they managed to chalk up their first UK number one single, with the classic “Fairground” which is still one of their best known and most requested songs. It was number one in the UK top 40 for five weeks, and remained in the charts for over three months. The farewell Simply Red Tour is set for 2010, and takes in some of the biggest arena venues in the UK, including nights in London, Manchester, Nottingham, Glasgow, Birmingham and Sheffield.
