How will Lee Evans do at the C4 Comedy Gala? By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn06 April 2011

The 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour will be hitting the road later this year, but before it gets underway the Essex comedian will be donating his time (and jokes) to the C4 Comedy Gala, which takes place on 24th May at London’s O2 arena.

The gala raises money for the Great Ormond Street children’s hospital and is one of the highlights of the comedy calendar. This year’s line-up boasts a raft of the UK’s finest comedians, including Michael McIntyre, Alan Carr, Jason Manford, Dara O’Brien, Noel Fielding, Jo Brand and John Bishop.

Lee Evans closed the ceremony last year, with the Evening Standard praising his performance: “Proceedings closed in style with Lee Evans, whose manic banter about life’s exasperations left the audience wanting more. Some achievement after three hours of non-stop laughs.”

The Mousehunt star will be appearing again this year, and no doubt a similar standard of hilarity can be expected. He has been working hard at refining his material with a series of one-off preview gigs at intimate venues in preparation for the forthcoming tour, all of which have seen record-breaking tickets sales.

The 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour kicks off on 16th August in Plymouth. Lee Evans tickets are currently on sale for some of the UK’s most spectacular venues, including the London O2, Manchester MEN arena and Glasgow’s SECC, so don’t miss out on your chance to see this stand-up legend live on the big stage.

Exeter fans delighted to get their Lee Evans tickets By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn05 April 2011

Preview gigs for the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour have seen phenomenal demand in recent weeks, and nowhere moreso than in Exeter. Controversy was sparked in the press recently, after Exeter council workers were given the opportunity to purchase Lee Evans tickets before they were released to the general public. The one-off exclusive gig sold out within hours as a result, leaving many disappointed.

Housewife Tamara Laskey from Broadfields told the Express and Echo: “It was unfair that people could buy up to eight tickets. Four should have been the limit. I know lots of people who were gutted.”

However, it was quite a different story for the 500 fortunate people who did manage to bag their seats on time. Susan Jones from Torquay said: “Lee Evans is one of the best stand-up comedians and it was a good opportunity to see him in the flesh. We’ve definitely been lucky.”

The 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour proper will be kicking off on 16th August in Plymouth – by which time the stand-up legend should have ironed out the creases in his routine and perfected his patter. This tour promises to be Evans’ most ambitious to date, with 66 shows billed at some of the UK’s largest arenas.

The Mousehunt star will be lighting up stages at cities including Brighton, Nottingham, Sheffield, London and Glasgow until late November, at which point he’ll probably be taking a well-deserved rest!

Could Michael McIntyre break the Lee Evans tour record? By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn04 April 2011

The upcoming 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour includes a staggering 66 dates, with thousands of tickets already sold for some of the UK’s largest venues. Evans has long been setting the bar for other comedians as far as audience size is concerned – in 2005 he set a solo act record by performing in front of more than 10,000 people at Manchester’s MEN Arena.

The subsequent Big tour in 2008 also became a record-breaker, making him arguably Britain’s most successful stand-up act. However, the recently announced mega-tour from Michael McIntyre could very well challenge that title.

McIntyre, who became a household name after making audiences laugh with his energetic observational humour on programmes such as the BBC’s topical panel show Mock the Week, will be performing around the country in 18 months’ time, with an initial 58 dates scheduled at 12 of the UK’s biggest venues, according to reports.

The foppish comic can expect to generate at least £20m in sales of tickets alone. A spokesman for McIntyre said: “It’s certainly one of the biggest UK comedy tours ever announced, and probably the biggest tour announced in one go. It is likely there will be a number of extra shows as we go on.”

Of course, Evans shouldn’t fear for his comedy crown just yet, considering his own impressive credentials. Aside from his phenomenal success as a stand-up act, he has also had starring roles in several Hollywood films, including There’s Something About Mary, The Fifth Element and Mousehunt.

Lee Evans tickets are currently on sale for dates in Bournemouth, London, Sheffield, Glasgow and more, so don’t miss your chance to see the comedy legend live on stage. The Lee Evans tour begins in August and will conclude in November.

Funding rise for Maltings theatre ahead of Lee Evans tour By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn01 April 2011

The Maltings theatre, located in the historic market town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, is rapidly becoming a recognised destination for stand-up comedy, and will shortly be playing host to an exclusive preview night for the upcoming 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour.

The Arts Council England has just announced its much-anticipated funding plans, and among the organisations affected there have been winners and losers, with some seeing their subsidies increased and others drastically cut. The Maltings is one venue that saw substantial gains under the new plans, with a 306% increase in funding.

Maltings Chief executive Miles Gregory said: “We’ve had Jason Manford here three times, we’re about to present Lee Evans, we’ve had Julian Clary. All of the big stand-up names are coming to this tiny venue on the borders. Last week, we sold 1,300 tickets and 12,000 people live in the town. I think it would be quite hard to better that frankly.”

The Roadrunner Lee Evans tour preview show will bring even greater prestige and revenue to a local theatre that is already looking at very good prospects for the coming year.

Lee Evans tickets are currently on sale for performances at some of the UK’s biggest venues, including London’s Wembley and O2, Glasgow’s SECC, Liverpool’s Echo arena and the Manchester MEN arena. Don’t miss your chance to see this comedy legend live on stage on what promises to be his most ambitious tour to date.

Caernarfon Lee Evans tickets sell out in record time By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn31 March 2011

Lee Evans tickets have proven predictably popular in Caernarfon, Wales, after going on sale on Monday morning (28th March).

The 394 available tickets for the-one off gig, which takes place on 29th May and will act as a great way of testing out new material for the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour, reportedly sold out in less than an hour – quite a feat!

The venue for the show, the Galeri arts centre, saw unprecedented crowds as comedy fans began camping out in the early hours. A Galeri spokesman said:

“We expected to sell out on the day, but we weren’t too sure how long it would take to sell all tickets to be honest. When I came into work at 7.30am and saw a queue starting to form – and then at 9am to see a queue of hundreds outside, we knew straight away that we would sell out within an hour or so.”

The venue has previously played host to a raft of top comedians, including Dave Spikey, Rich Hall, Rhod Gilbert, Alan Carr and Rob Brydon.

Although seats for the majority of Evans’ preview nights have already been snapped up by fortunate locals, don’t despair – the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour will be kicking off, as a finished product, in August. This tour could very well be the Essex comedian’s most spectacular yet, with over 50 nights billed at the UK’s biggest arenas, so don’t miss out!

Lee Evans tour review highlights By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn30 March 2011

The 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour is rapidly approaching, with the first date lined up on the 16th August in Plymouth. In preparation, the stand-up legend from Essex will be testing his new material exhaustively in a series of preview gigs throughout April and May.

Tickets for these one-off shows have consistently sold out within minutes of going on sale, and with Evans’ previous record of success on both stage and screen, this is hardly surprising. The Big 2008 Lee Evans tour received glowing praise from the Guardian:

“Although physical humour might be considered by many to be the lowest form of comedy, the singular genius of Evans is how he uses that style to what seems to be its maximum potential. Rather than making weak observations, Evans opens up whole new worlds of interpretation. It’s a testament to his incredible imagination that wherever you are sitting in the arena, it feels like you are in the front row.”

A preview gig for the 2011 Roadrunner tour at the Glee Club in Cardiff in January garnered a similarly positive verdict from Wales Online:

“The American comedy legend Jerry Lewis, with whom Evans is often likened, once said: ‘There are two types of comedians. One is funny, while the other just tells funny.’ And it’s the perfect description of Evans’ ultra-physical, rubber-limbed doofus act – the man simply has ‘funny bones’.”

For your chance to see the funny-man in action, get Lee Evans tickets to one of his upcoming dates at the biggest arenas across the UK.

Barrow fans queue all night for Lee Evans tickets By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn29 March 2011

Demand for Lee Evans tickets was intense in Barrow recently, following an announcement that the world-famous stand-up comic would be performing a one-off preview gig at local venue The Forum.

According to the North-West Evening Mail, tickets for the show sold out within 75 minutes of going on sale and a contingent of particularly dedicated fans even camped out from 9pm the evening before, equipped with heaters, sleeping bags, food and chairs.

The preview night, which will take place on April 23rd and act as a proving ground for the comedian’s new material, forms part of the nationwide 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour.

18-year-old Paige Marsden of Barrow queued throughout the night to get her tickets, but seemed to be in excellent spirits the next morning:  “It has been a right laugh. It’s what you make of it. We came early because we thought it would be like this. I have got my ticket. Lee Evans is a very funny man.”

Many were left disappointed however, as the 529 available seats were quickly snapped up by 300 people, 12% of which made their purchases over the telephone, according to Forum manager Sally Baines.

If you would like to see the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour in its perfected form later on this year, there will be plenty of opportunities, as this tour included over 50 dates at the UK’s largest arenas, including London’s O2 and the MEN arena in Manchester.

Sheffield newspaper gives away Lee Evans tickets as competition prize By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn29 March 2011

The Star, a Sheffield-based newspaper, is giving readers the chance to get their hands on a “money-can’t-buy” prize – Lee Evans tickets and a meet and greet backstage on tour with the legendary comedian himself.

The first prize winner gets tickets in addition to a chat with Lee, whilst four runners-up will receive a pair of tickets each. The Essex stand-up genius is playing four nights at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena later this year, as part of the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour.

Evans is renowned for his intensely energetic and dynamic comedy, which often sees him careering around the stage and sweating profusely. In a recent interview with Phil Jupitus, Evans spoke about one of his more painful jokes – a physical demonstration of what happens on cramped caravan holidays that involves hitting himself repeatedly with a microphone:

“I love physical stuff. The only problem is, if you do that night after night the pleasure you get from it is the audience laughing. To hear that sound is, to me, is amazing. I love that sound. I always feel that if that’s happening I’m doing something positive on the planet. Unfortunately, that hurts, right.”

That’s dedication to craft for you. If you want to see the Essex funnyman in action, then make sure you get tickets to see the upcoming Roadrunner Lee Evans tour, which officially kicks off in August and will be stopping off at the UK’s biggest arenas.

Preview gig announced in Kendal for Lee Evans tour By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn26 March 2011

It seems that stand-up comedy maestro Lee Evans is making sure he’s fully prepared for his 2011 Roadrunner UK tour, as yet another preview gig has been added to the schedule. It was announced on Monday (21st March) that he will be performing a one-off show at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal, Cumbria, on April 21st.

Unfortunately tickets for the show have already sold out, illustrating that the early bird really does catch the worm – according to reports, all the Lee Evans tickets had been snapped up within minutes of going on sale, after recipients of the Brewery’s comedy e-newsletter got advance notice about the event.

The string of preview nights should ensure that the material is honed to perfection (with any duff jokes ironed out!) in time for the Roadrunner Lee Evans tour proper, which officially kicks off in August in Plymouth.

The tour looks set to be the comic’s biggest yet, with over 50 dates at major arenas across the UK – though it will be difficult to outclass the standard set by his 2008 Big tour, where he played to over 500,000 people over 59 nights.

The 2011 Lee Evans tour will be on the road until late November, so don’t miss out on your chance to see one of Britain’s best-loved comedians perform live on stage. Lee Evans tickets are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

Lee Evans £7,000,000 ticket sales extravaganza By: Iain MacRitchie24 March 2011

British comedy master Lee Evans hits the road with his record breaking 2011 Roadrunner tour in Bournemouth on August 24th. The tour has broken a record by selling £7,000,000 worth of tickets on the day of release.

Demand for the jittery comedy marvel’s shows has been so intense that extra dates have been added to sate the nation’s Lee Evans appetite, and with prices for Lee Evans tickets as low as £39.99 on Seatwave it’s no wonder they’re selling so rapidly.

Lee Evans has become one of the UK’s most established and treasured comedians. His brand of sweaty, awkward and panicked comedy performance has earned him the love of his countrymen, impressive roles in Hollywood films like There’s Something About Mary, Mousehunt and sci-fi epic The Fifth Element, and the coveted ‘Perrier Award’ for comedy in 1993 (now ‘Edinburgh Comedy Award’).

The star’s intensely physical stage act and irresistible charm are key to his past, present and future success. The Big Lee Evans tour became a record breaker, selling thousands of tickets across 59 dates and over 1 million DVDs during the Christmas period in 2008. The Roadrunner Lee Evans tour will no doubt attain a similar feat.

Evans stated in an interview with the Mirror in 2007 that he wears a new suit every night he is on tour, due to his immense sweating on stage. His sweating is attributed to nerves, but thankfully he merges this into his performance, always giving a thoroughly entertaining, real experience to his audience.

With Lee Evans tickets continuing to sell at a furious rate, it seems the comedian should be draped in Armani for the stretch of his show and that Christmas 2011 will be a riveting affair in the Evans household.

Wales preview gig announced for Lee Evans tour By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn24 March 2011

Lucky comedy fans in Caernarfon, Wales, will be in for quite the treat, as it has recently been announced that Lee Evans tickets will soon be going on sale for an exclusive preview show for the upcoming 2011 Roadrunner tour.

The special one-off show will take place at the Galeri, a popular local theatre venue that has previously hosted a preview night for comedian Alan Carr and is fast becoming a comedy hotspot. A Galeri spokesman talked about the imminent Lee Evans gig:

“The night will follow the same format as the Alan Carr evening – a work-in-progress, meaning that he might well be reading from notes on the night. Every comedian goes through this process of testing new jokes on various audiences. It is pretty obvious that he has a lot of material, because unlike the Alan Carr show, he will perform on his own, with no support act, so the audience are in for a treat.”

As huge demand is expected for the show, tickets have been subject to strict allocation rules – only two per person maximum. This is probably a wise measure, given the public outrage that recently occurred when Exeter council members pinched all the tickets for a Lee Evans preview gig before they even went on sale.

The 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour will be hitting arenas across the country from 16th August in Plymouth, so don’t miss out on the chance to see the stand-up legend live. Lee Evans tickets for the tour are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

Lee Evans: making the banal hilarious on tour By: Iain MacRitchie24 March 2011

Lee Evans is Britain’s sweatiest comedian. His drenched antics have won him the respect of the British public and his talents as an actor have gained him success in the USA. We know he’s a renowned comic who uses physical comedy to boost the impact of his already hilarious scripts – but how well do we really know the man himself?

Born in Bristol in 1964, Lee was the son of a cabaret performing father. This influenced him to move into the world of stand up, where his incredibly lively stage performances garnered attention. He made his film debut in 1995′s Funny Bones and then in 1997 scored a small role in the sci-fi flick The Fifth Element alongside superstar Bruce Willis.

His big break came in the successful comedy Mousehunt, starring with Nathan Lane and Christopher Walken. The movie grossed over $100million worldwide and saw Evans use his comical physicality to full effect (rolling around in a sea of mousetraps for one).

As well as success in Hollywood and critical acclaim for his acting ability (he was praised for his work in 1998′s There’s Something About Mary), Evans is also a hugely successful live performer.

The ‘Big’ Lee Evans tour in 2008 spanned 59 dates and saw the comic perform to over 500,000 people. This record was beaten by the sales of tickets for his latest tour, ‘Roadrunner’, which commences this August and concludes in late November. According to Chortle.co.uk, over 220,000 ‘Roadrunner’ Lee Evans tickets sold in a mere nine hours.

Come August, he will be taking on huge arenas once more for the 2011 ‘Roadrunner’ Lee Evans tour, bringing with him the grounded personality that makes him such a charming comedian. His ability to make everyday annoyances eye stingingly funny is what makes him interesting. Moaning about a stiff neck in the morning and creaky floor boards sound like relatively banal topics, but accompanied by his signature jittery mannerisms and rapid pacing back and forth across the stage, they make fantastically amusing jokes.

No doubt the stand up legend will be stocking up on suits and sweat bands in preparation for his upcoming tour, so whilst he goes shopping get your Lee Evans tickets now at Seatwave.

Preview gigs for Lee Evans tour sell out within minutes By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn24 March 2011

The world-famous There’s Something About Mary comedian will be embarking on his 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour in August, and has scheduled a series of preview gigs at intimate venues to test new material before he takes to the stage at large arenas on tour.

According to recent reports, Evans sold 600 tickets for two performances at the Ludlow Assembly Rooms in just 20 minutes, breaking records for the venue. Paula Redway, director at Ludlow Assembly Rooms, said: “We knew the tickets would go fast, but this was incredible.”

A preview gig at the Maltings theatre on May 3rd in north Northumberland also sold out with remarkable speed. A statement on the theatre’s website read:

“Over 200 people queued from 5am on Monday, March 21 for the remaining tickets for this show, which has now sold out. We recognise that many people were disappointed not to be able to secure tickets, but sadly with only 317 seats available and with such high demand (we have answered over 600 telephone enquiries since Thursday, March 17) this was unavoidable. We just wish we had a 2,000 seat theatre.”

The 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour includes over 50 dates at the biggest arenas across the UK, with shows in London, Manchester, Cardiff, Birmingham and more. Lee Evans tickets are evidently in massive demand, so don’t miss out on your chance to see this stand-up comedy legend live. Lee Evans tickets are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

Extra preview gig added to Roadrunner Lee Evans tour By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn18 March 2011

It has been announced that an additional preview date has been added to the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour, giving fans another opportunity to see Lee’s new material before he embarks on the tour proper in August.

Comedy fans in north Northumberland will be pleased to learn that the preview gig is scheduled to take place at The Maltings theatre in Berwick on Tuesday, May 3rd. Demand for Lee Evans tickets is always exceptional, and organisers at the theatre are already expecting something of a scrum:

“We anticipate that patrons may wish to arrive early and queue for tickets – a queue starting point will be clearly identified outside the building. Please note that tickets are limited to 5 per customer and that priority will be given to customers who book in person.”

Dr Miles Gregory, Maltings chief executive and artistic director, said: “We’re delighted that Lee Evans has chosen to perform at The Maltings. He is a major, major player on the international comedy scene, and one of Britain’s best-loved comedians. It’s great news for Northumberland, and it’s great news for The Maltings and Berwick.”

Don’t worry if you can’t make any of the preview shows – the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour will be stopping off at arenas cross the UK later this year, with dates in Brighton, London, Sheffield, Nottingham and more. Lee Evans tickets are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

Council staff snap up Lee Evans tickets on pre-sale By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn17 March 2011

Exeter comedy fans were left feeling more than a little miffed yesterday (16th March), after it emerged that all 500 tickets for a preview gig for the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour were completely sold out – before even going on sale!

According to a report in the Metro, Exeter city council staff were informed of the gig at The Corn Exchange in advance, and given the opportunity to buy up to eight tickets each. The Lee Evans tickets, originally priced at £25, were then being sold on eBay for twice their face value.

By the time the one-off show was announced to the general public, all the tickets had been spirited away – much to the council’s chagrin. A council spokesman tried to explain the gaffe:

“We couldn’t carry out normal marketing and had to rely on our email marketing list, together with a circular email to council staff and councillors and a media release.”

Supposedly, only 50 of the tickets went to council employees, whilst the other 450 were allocated to friends and family. No doubt this incident will add to Lee’s material on the night.

Disappointed Lee Evans fans in Exeter can at least console themselves with the fact that the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour will be kicking off in August, with over 50 dates set for venues across the UK. Lee Evans tickets are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

Yet another preview date added to the 2011 Lee Evans tour By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn16 March 2011

Tickets for an additional preview date for the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour went on sale this morning (16th March). The show, which will act as a proving ground for Lee’s new material for the upcoming UK tour, will be held at a relatively modest venue – the Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.

The intimate gig takes place on Sunday 17th April, and tickets (priced at £25) went on general sale online at 9am – most of which have already sold out. Most fans of Lee Evans will be more accustomed to watching the legendary stand-up comedian performing at massive venues like London’s O2 arena, which offer vast expanses of stage space to work with – so this cosy gig provides a rare opportunity to see him up close (without the aid of binoculars).

In 2005, Evans broke the world record for a solo act performing to the biggest comedy audience, playing to a crowd of over 10,000 people at the MEN Arena in Manchester. This phenomenal success was followed up with the Big Lee Evans tour in 2008. During the Big tour he performed in front of over 500,000 people over the course of 59 dates.

Don’t have your Lee Evans tickets yet? Well don’t worry, because the 2011 Roadrunner tour will be on the road until late November, with shows at major arenas across the UK. Lee Evans tickets are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

Even more dates added to the Roadrunner Lee Evans tour By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn15 March 2011

It was announced yesterday (14th March) that the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour is now even bigger, thanks to the addition of two extra dates. Lee will extend his stay at London’s Wembley Arena for another night, performing the new show on 19th September. Tickets for the new show are currently on sale.

Evans will also be putting on a special preview gig to test out new material for the tour on April 23rd at The Forum in Barrow, Cumbria. Tickets for the show are reasonably priced at £25, but unfortunately are only available from the box office and over the phone.  Over 100 people called in advance to make enquiries about tickets for the event, according to reports.

Joanne Marwood, Programming & Promotions Officer for The Forum, said: “We are expecting a good response and people camping out from early on.”

These predictions are well-founded, considering the 2008 Big Lee Evans tour sold out every date in all 59 venues.

If Cumbria is a bit out of your way and you don’t fancy camping out, don’t worry – there are still plenty of Lee Evans tickets available for dates across the UK, including Brighton, London, Sheffield and Glasgow.

The 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour will be on the road from August until late November. Lee Evans tickets are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

Extra dates added to the Lee Evans tour! By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn14 March 2011

It was recently announced that two extra dates have been added to the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour. The comedy maestro from Essex will be performing an additional show at Newcastle Metro Radio Arena on 20th October. Tickets for the performance went on general sale last weekend (12th March).

A preview show has also been confirmed at the Corn Exchange in Newbury on April 30th, although anyone hoping to get a sneak preview of Lee’s brand new material might be disappointed – tickets for the performance sold out within 58 minutes of going on sale on Friday.

It’s been a few years since the last Lee Evans tour, and the There’s Something About Mary comic is keen to get back into the swing of things. He said: “I am really eager to get back out on tour again and go all around the country. You get such a buzz from the live audience, the reactions are just so immediate and totally drive you on – there is nothing else quite like it.”

Lee’s previous 59-date arena tour ‘Big’ in 2008 saw him sell out his first show at London’s O2 arena in just 60 minutes, making it the UK’s biggest solo live comedy gig ever at the time.

Don’t have your Lee Evans tickets yet? With over 50 shows across the UK and the 2011 Roadrunner tour continuing well into November, there are still plenty of opportunities to bag seats. Lee Evans tickets are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

Will the 2011 Lee Evans tour live up to its sweaty predecessors? By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn11 March 2011

Some people aren’t keen on perspiration. In 2009, megastar Beyoncé famously banned photographers from snapping her from behind on her “I Am… Sasha Fierce” world tour, because she felt self-conscious after energetic performances left her dripping with sweat.

This doesn’t seem to be an issue for Essex comedy legend Lee Evans however, who has turned his exceptionally sweaty shows into something of a trademark. Of course, Lee is famed for his intensely dynamic and physical comedy, which makes sweating an inevitability – and no doubt the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour will be no exception.

Evans has famously attributed his perspiration to pre-show jitters, stating that before performances he is “as nervous as a nun awaiting her pregnancy test results”.

But is a sopping brow necessarily a bad thing? Guardian arts commentator Bella Todd wrote last year: “On one level it’s just the body’s natural response to hot lights and the audience’s critical gaze, but I’ve long been a sucker for sweaty performances… above all I think I value sweat as a simple signifier of ‘realness’.”

Whilst Evans might not be recruited as the face of Lynx or Right Guard any time soon, he can certainly be relied upon to deliver an evening of laughs – as illustrated by the thousands of people who have already bought Lee Evans tickets for the upcoming 2011 Roadrunner tour.

The Lee Evans tour will be playing at arenas across the UK from March 17th onwards, with tickets currently on sale for dates in Brighton, Nottingham, London and a host of other cities. Lee Evans tickets are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

Will the Lee Evans tour keep the comic from running the London marathon this year? By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn11 March 2011

The 2011 Virgin London Marathon is fast approaching, with a date set for April 17th. Essex comedy legend Lee Evans ran the London marathon last year along with Sir Richard Branson, Princess Beatrice and singer Natalie Imbruglia, completing the course with a respectable time of 4 hours 55 minutes 10 seconds.

Lee Evans’ 2010 run with television writer Tony Grounds was in aid of Save the Children, a charity that helps protect vulnerable children living in impoverished conditions. In his personal message on the fundraising website he said:

“Everyone looking at this, donate something. That’s an order. For the price of a cup of tea you can save a child’s life. ‘Hold that second cuppa Doris, today I’m saving lives!’ Then walk out of the café, your head held high and give it a chorus of ‘What Have You Done Today to Make You Feel Proud?!’”

This year’s line-up includes model Agyness Deyn and fashion designer Henry Holland, who will both be running to raise money for Oxfam.  No doubt many more celebrities will be confirmed in the near future, but will Lee Evans be among them? The comedian is just about to embark on his 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour – and with over 50 dates, the tour is something of a marathon in itself and has already sold over 250,000 tickets.

The Lee Evans tour kicks off in Cardiff mid-March, and then there’s a lengthy intermission between April and August – so there’s potential for Lee to compete, if he can stomach another 26 mile jog. Lee Evans tickets are always in great demand, so don’t miss out! Lee Evans tickets are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

Lee Evans tickets now on sale for the 2011 C4 Comedy Gala By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn11 March 2011

Comedy legend Lee Evans has been confirmed to appear at Channel 4’s Comedy Gala 2011 fundraiser at London’s O2 arena. The event, taking place on 24th May, will be in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital, which specialises in treating children with serious illnesses.

The hospital is hoping to raise £5 million from the gala to fund a new operating theatre, which will drastically cut waiting times for children in need of urgent surgery. Along with Lee Evans, also billed to perform are a host of other comedy luminaries, including: Michael McIntyre, Jack Dee, John Bishop, Noel Fielding, Jonathan Ross, Kevin Bridges, Jo Brand, Alan Carr, Dara O’Briain, Sarah Millican, Jack Whitehall and Sean Lock.

Last year’s fundraiser was a resounding success, selling 15,000 tickets and raising almost £900,000 for the hospital. Over three million viewers tuned in to watch the event on Channel 4, which featured routines from 35 top comedians, including Lee Evans.

This year, the Essex contortionist will be taking time out of his nationwide Roadrunner Lee Evans tour to perform at the charity extravaganza. The tour, which kicks off on March 17th, has been extended to add extra dates to accommodate demand for tickets.

Lee Evans tickets for the 2011 C4 Comedy Gala at the O2 arena are now on sale, as well as tickets for the 2011 UK Roadrunner Lee Evans tour, which will be on the road until late November. Lee Evans tickets are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

Sheffield comedy fans could win tickets to the 2011 Lee Evans tour By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn08 March 2011

The Sheffield City Hall and Motorpoint Arena are offering a fantastic comedy jackpot to one lucky winner. Anyone who enters the Comic Relief 2011 charity draw (for a minimum of one pound) could have the chance to win tickets to see some of the biggest comedy shows of the year – and they can bring a friend!

The epic prize includes tickets for the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour, as well as tickets to see a host of other comedians on tour, including: Jimmy Carr, Micky Flanagan, Milton Jones, Ed Byrne, Jason Manford, Tim Minchin, Paddy McGuinness, Alan Carr, Bill Bailey, John Bishop and Dylan Moran.

Best of all, proceeds from the draw will go to Comic Relief, which raises millions of pounds each year to help tackle poverty and social injustice around the world.

The lucky winner of the draw will be attending the hugely anticipated Lee Evans tour, which is due to arrive at Sheffield in October, where Lee will be performing for four nights. The Roadrunner tour is the Essex comedian’s most ambitious to date, with over 50 shows at the biggest arenas in the country.

If you don’t have your Lee Evans tickets for the upcoming nationwide Roadrunner tour yet, then there is still plenty of time to grab your seats, as it will be running right up until the end of the year. Lee Evans tickets are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

Lee Evans tour DVDs inspired rising comedy star Chris Ramsey By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn28 February 2011

24-year-old comic Chris Ramsey, who has been on tour with Al Murray and Russell Kane and is rapidly making a name for himself as a definite ‘one to watch’ in the comedy circuit, has dubbed stand-up legend Lee Evans “quality” and cited him as one of his major inspirations.

Ramsey, who was lucky enough to meet Evans, spoke glowingly of the encounter: “I met Lee Evans two weeks ago and he’s the nicest bloke I’ve met. I said watching his DVDs were one of the things that made me want to get into comedy and he gave me a big hug.”

The 2008 ‘Big’ Lee Evans tour sold thousands of tickets, and the accompanying tour footage (filmed at the O2 arena) became the biggest selling comedy DVD of 2008, shifting over 1,000,000 copies and breaking records for the fastest sale for a non-film video.

The forthcoming 2011 ‘Roadrunner’ Lee Evans tour promises to be just as spectacular as its predecessors. With dates at arenas across the UK in cities including Birmingham, Cardiff, Brighton and London amongst others, it will be one of the unmissable comedy highlights of the year – and might just inspire the next generation of Chris Ramseys.

If you can’t wait until the ‘Roadrunner’ tour comes out on DVD, then why not invest in some Lee Evans tickets and see the man himself in the (sweaty) flesh? Lee Evans tickets are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

Warm up for the Lee Evans tour: our top 5 Evans witticisms By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn25 February 2011

Super-comedian Lee Evans is renowned for his hilarious delivery, manic energy, incredible physicality and effervescent performances. His stand-up shows are unforgettable, but it has been a while since his last tour – ‘Big’ in 2008. The ‘Big’ tour encompassed 59 dates, with the first show at London’s O2 arena selling out of tickets in a mere 60 minutes, smashing box office records.

So, to refresh your memory for the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour, we have compiled our top 5 gags from the legendary comic – and it was quite a task to pick just five.

      1. “I love restaurants, and that’s the thing now, they always boast about now, restaurants – home made cooking – I don’t want homemade cooking, that’s why I’m here! Yeah… you know! And they don’t say whose home it is, do they! Could be a mental home, couldn’t it!”

      2. “I swear, the other day I bought a packet of peanuts, and on the packet it said “may contain nuts.” Well YES! That’s what I bought the buggers for! You’d be pissed off if you opened it and a socket set fell out!”

      3. “Bird flu! What’s that? How do you know a bird’s got flu! Some Chinese bloke spots one of his chickens with its claws in a bowl of hot water and a towel over its head! Bwrr-rr-rrr-rrr!”

      4. “You ever get lost with your wife in the car, you’re completely lost, and they always say the same thing! “Oh let’s just go home.” “WE’RE LOST! WHAT, DID YOU THROW BREAD OUT THE WINDOW?”

      5. “I like it when the waiter asks you if you want parmesan cheese on your dinner, yeah, give me essence of puke all over me tea!”

Demand for Lee Evans tickets is high, so don’t miss your chance to see the dynamo in action on the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour. Lee Evans tickets are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

Lee Evans tour to kick off with rumours of a book in the works By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn24 February 2011

According to the News Of The World, much-loved stand-up comic Lee Evans is due to publish a book at some point this year.  If this rumour is indeed true, it would explain the considerable gap between Evans’ last nationwide ‘Big’ tour in 2008 and his forthcoming 2011 Roadrunner tour – perhaps the time was spent penning his memoirs.

The autobiographies of comedians are proving to be popular reading as well as lucrative business for the publishing industry. Last year the second instalment of Stephen Fry’s autobiography was the best-seller within the genre, shifting over 370,000 copies. Fry was closely followed by Michael McIntyre, who sold 332,000 copies of his book, Life and Laughing.

This year promises more reading material from various comedians. As well as Lee Evans, we can also expect literary offerings from Johnny Vegas, James Corden, Steve Coogan, Jason Manford and Rob Brydon.

Given that much of Evans’ material is drawn from his life and personal experiences, with any luck his book will be every bit as hilarious as his stand-up routines. In the meantime, fans of the Essex funny-man can see him in the flesh, as the 2011 Roadrunner Lee Evans tour is about to take arenas across the country by storm.

Additional dates have been added to the tour since its announcement, owing to phenomenal demand for tickets. However, Lee Evans tickets are thankfully still on sale for a number of cities, including Nottingham, Plymouth, London and Brighton to name but a few. Don’t miss your chance to grab a seat at the Lee Evans tour – Lee Evans tickets are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

Fans get tweeting in anticipation of Lee Evans tour By: Lauren Johnson-Ginn23 February 2011

Unlike many comedians who are well known – and occasionally notorious – for their social networking exploits (Jason Manford, Stephen Fry et al) stand-up legend Lee Evans keeps a very low online profile, with virtually no presence on Twitter at all. The same cannot be said of his fans, however, who have recently been very vocal about the much-anticipated 2011 ‘Roadrunner’ Lee Evans tour.

A brief perusal of tweets relating to Evans tells a story of anticipation and in some cases impatience. One tweeter demands: “Someone get me Lee Evans tickets!!!! :O” whilst many others celebrate:  “Can’t wait to go and watch @alancarr and Lee Evans this year at the M.E.N I’m excited!!!:D” In some cases, flagrant abuse of smileys is evident: “WooHoo :D I’m getting Lee Evans tickets for my birthday :D :D :D

Lee Evans has had massive success with previous stand-up tours. Between 2002 and 2008 the comic performed to more than a million people over the course of his three live arena shows – ‘Wired & Wonderful’ in 2002, ‘XL’ in 2005 and ‘Big’ in 2008. The 2011 ‘Roadrunner’ Lee Evans tour looks set to be even bigger, encompassing 61 dates in cities across the UK, including London, Sheffield, Manchester and Cardiff, to name but a few.

If, like Lee’s Twitter posse, you can’t wait to see the funny-man on tour, then don’t miss out. Although demand for tickets has been huge and many dates are already sold out, Lee Evans tickets are available to buy and sell at Seatwave.

From his Bristol upbringing to the eagerly anticipated Lee Evans tour By: rosebrownlow22 February 2011

Raised in the northern city, Bristol, Lee Evans hadn’t realised where his talents lay in comedy until later in life. Like many comedians, Evans approached life with an air of the daunting unknown. He therefore began dabbling in a number of ventures to attempt to understand where his passions lay. Trying his hand at art and boxing, it was comedy that Evans eventually found to be for him. Currently amidst the eagerly anticipated Lee Evans tour, we are confident he made the right choice. (Lee Evans tickets available from Seatwave).

Following in his father’s footsteps down the route of entertainment, Evans was the anomaly as he found success in the notoriously unaccommodating industry in the late 1990s. Today, Evans has become famous nationwide for his hot, sweaty and energetic stand-up performance.  In fact, Evans is renowned for throwing so much energy into his act that it is not unusual for Evans to have a quick shower and change during intermissions as he finds himself drenched in sweat within minutes of stepping on the stage.

It is his amicable and unique character that Evans can thank for his success. Witnessing Lee Evans tickets instantly sell off the shelves upon release, he can confidently say he has made it in the world of comedy.

With 50 gigs on the cards, set to hit all major cities in Europe, Evans is continually putting all his energy into the promotion of Lee Evans tickets for his currently touring Lee Evans tour, Roadrunner.

2011 looks to be the year of big laughs for comedy, with a number of our favourite comedians having kept a low profile in preparation for their 2011 tours. Predicted by comedy’s critics as the year of the super gig with the biggest comedians undertaking record-breaking national tours.  Some of comedy’s best to hit the stage this year include John Bishop, Peter Kay, Jason Manford, Jimmy Carr and John Cleese. However, we are particularly thrilled to see British comedian character Lee Evans hit the stage with the Lee Evans tour. Apparently we’re not alone in our excitement as Lee Evans tickets sell-out at venues nationwide.

Amidst the Lee Evans tour, we look back at Evans’ acting career By: rosebrownlow17 February 2011

With the mention of Lee Evans, most people’s instant association is with stand-up comedy. This is certainly no surprise as Evans claims a series of sell-out tours to his name, Lee Evans tickets currently selling out at speed to his current Lee Evans tour, Roadrunner. There’s no denying, Evans is hugely successful on the comedy scene, however, that is not all Evans has under his belt.

Renowned for his humour, it is all too easy to forget that he has a number of other talents to his name, one of which is acting. With that said, we take a look at some of Evans’ most impressive thespian performances to date:

Making his West End debut, 2004 saw Evans star alongside Michael Gambon in the play Endgame. Gaining a taste for the stage, it wasn’t long until Evans was returning to the West End to star in Mel Brooks’ 2005 musical comedy, The Producers.

Evans returned to acting in 2007, playing the title characters in ITV’s drama production of the H.G. Wells novel The History of Mr Polly. Evans spoke of how much he enjoyed the role saying, “It’s a really nice adventure about someone who’s a bit odd, a bit unconventional, a bit like me, really.”

Despite being busy with Lee Evans tour preparations, Evans graced our screens most recently in the renowned British series, Doctor Who. His appearance saw him play a quirky scientist Malcom Taylor, in the popular episode Planet of the Dead. It is such performances that result in Lee Evans tickets to the Lee Evans tour selling-out upon release.
