John Barrowman
John Barrowman, while best known for his role in the BBC Doctor Who spinoff “Torchwood” has been a staple on stage and screen in the UK since the late 80’s. He is originally from Glasgow, although spent his teenage years living in Illinois where he attended high school and embarked on his career as an entertainer. In 1989 he moved to San Diego, California where he attended University and during this period he took part in an exchange program where he returned to his native United Kingdom and studied Shakespeare for six months. It was at this point that his professional acting and singing career’s kicked off with rolls in no less than a dozen west end musicals, including the Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard, Beauty and the Beast, Godspell, Miss Saigon and Hair, amongst other large productions. After several years treading the boardwalks of London’s West End he went on to start a Television career that has spanned the last 25 years, starting as one of the original hosts of BBC’s “Live and Kicking”. He has since had roles in programmes as diverse as 5’s Company, to Bedtime Stories on CBeebies, to a number of major one off shows such as Graham Norton’s “The Big Finish”. Recently his television career has taken him back to the United States where he recently recorded 6 episodes of the hit series Desperate Housewives, and is currently rumoured to be recording episodes of the hit FOX series Glee. Alongside his successful television career, Barrowman has featured on no less than 21 albums, of which 9 are his own, the rest being ensemble casts of the various hit musicals he has taken part in.
