California native Ben Harper grew up listening to blues, folk, soul, R&B and reggae. At a young age he began playing the guitar and started to perform regularly. During his teenage years Harper turned his attention toward the acoustic slide guitar, which later became his signature instrument. After years of steady gigging in and around Los Angeles, Harper was picked up by Virgin Records, the starting point to a long and successful career.
